A meeting of Men Among Men
10.16.08For the past couple months, Tick Tick adjunct and incredible illustrator, Colin-Patrick Charles has been working with David Strackany to produce a new design for a set of tees for Paleo. They had been communicating via email, delving into the seen unseen, Until NOW!
For the next couple hours, David hand rolled all the tees into tubes, taped them up and labeled them with their size, and made another point brutally clear, that we need an intern to do that kind of work.
All parties interested in rolling up t-shirts, mopping and vacuuming, cleaning squeegees and putting up posters around town please contact me immediately. This is a real opportunity to discover the inner workings of a screen printing business while being shamelessly exploited.
7 days a week…..!!
10.15.08Thanks Phil.
10.12.08A little bit of news, a little bit of TUNE YARDS
10.10.08Truman Peyote couldn’t make it on the 18th to play with WOMEN, so we’ve added THE VACANT LOTS and RYAN POWER instead!!!!!!!! Not too shabby, I must say. Two of my favorite local bands, and in fact, Ryan is recording the ‘Lots this weekend in Addison. Excited to see where they will take it in the studio.
MT EERIE tickets are pretty much sold out, though a few will still be available at the door tomorrow night, we think. Probably to go pretty fast.
Last night Mr. Ryan Power put together a fantastic show down at the Pine Street Studios. I love going to shows down there, and they always have a fire outside in a beautiful firepit, even with some marshmallow roasting. It just feels kind of enchanted and wintry and Vermonty.
I missed Cosmic Matrix, but I didn’t miss CHRIS WISEMAN. Can’t track down his possibly myspace right now, but he had a lovely croon and some nice things to say through the medium of song.
Nor did I miss TUNE-YARDS. Holy shit. It was like a Fela Kuti, vaudeville, Silver Mt Zion, power combo with a healthy splash of incredible vocal control and a dash of NOT BEING AFRAID OF WHAT WE MIGHT THINK OF HER. What was running through my mind was the phrase “separate the wheat from the chaff.” What I mean, is that, there are many people who play music, especially in the field of indie rock, without a ton of natural musical talent. And that’s how it should be. And it’s nice to go see music and feel like the people playing it are just like you, some people working together, playing things simply, maybe, with some great ideas. That’s one of the big reasons we have rock music. But then occasionally people do all that, and also have overwhelming chops! You can buy Merrill’s album here.
Better late than never!

Phil Elvrum BABY!!!!!!
09.10.08I remember the first time I heard a Microphones record…I was 17, and I had just left the New Paltz, NY record store Rhino Records with a copy of The Glow, Pt. 2
I picked it up on a whim (most of my musical exploration back then involved “gut feelings”) I listened to it 3 times on the ride home and 1 last time in my (parents) driveway. I was sad, happy, alone, surrounded, sick, well, haunted and well blown away! Phil Elvrum has a way of cutting right to the bone of musical feeling…he is a master.
Tick Tick is proud to present Mr. Elvrum In Burlington on Oct. 11th (venue tba)
We will keep you posted!!!!
Until then take a listen :
and buy this stuff.
