Fresh site! Though not so fresh taste in my mouth….weird fish.

Then, later in the morning, a kick-ass (but foul-tasting) launch party from Paaaaris….

Memories of Summer

09.21.08

At my “other” job, we have some lovely neighbors who like to bring in saltwater taffy for all the staff to “enjoy” at the end of the summer. They leave it, in its little box, on the table, with a little folded sign, on which is written in a beautiful old-lady script, “Memories of Summer.” So I’m trying to post up some of the gazillions of pictures from Tick Tick’s summer of shows, which was crazily busy and awesome.

We had an amazing dance party in a gutted out apartment, featuring the brilliance of Heartthrobz.

The Vacant Lots also played that night — they are awesome and you can see them this Friday, the 26th, at the Monkey House.

Celebrity DJ The Small is Beautiful played a celebrity set at the Monkey House, and the next morning, baked some chicken at my house.

While you may have formerly known him as J’aime Tambeur, drummer for the Unicorns, in truth he is a dance phenomenon with a blog. Catch him in Europe! He was also a very nice person who did a one-off for us, and all this from the member of a band who was really a LEGEND to me in their time.

The Mae Shi came to Metronome and rocked it pretty hard.

But not before Heartthrobz lathered up the crowd into a screaming frenzy. The Mae Shi expressed a desire to have Heartthrobz open all of their shows.

Tick Tick and some friends endeavored to have a Community Garden Plot at Rock Point. Then, they go busy and it rained for three weeks. Still, we grew some stuff.

Do you rip down Tick Tick posters?

09.16.08

If you rip down Tick Tick posters and put them up in your living room, and then feel guilty about it, feel better by joining our new POSTER SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE!

We’re still working out the details, but beginning October 1, we’ll be offering a quarterly subscription service. For $50, you’ll receive a tube in the mail with ten or more limited edition, hand screen printed posters, signed and numbered. You will get posters, other art prints, who knows what else we might throw in the tube!

The first selling point here is that while the posters you ripped down are on crappy newsprint, these are on lovely, archival-quality poster paper. Someday, you might be able to sell them on e-bay for way more!

The second selling point is that money from poster subscriptions goes directly to support Tick Tick’s booking work. Tick Tick booking is a labor of love, which is a nice way of saying that it doesn’t make any money. Because we book in alternative venues (which we love to do) and don’t charge high ticket prices (because we don’t want to), and because gas is expensive, and because we want to book bands who aren’t wildly famous, it is very very hard to make any sort of money at the door at a show.

The money from your subscription will go towards buying poster paper for these lovely show posters, towards paying off the new PA that we bought this summer (which is what allows us to do shows in alternative venues and have them sound ok), enable us to pay every band we book a reasonable amount of money, and give us the flexibility to take chances on bands that are a little bit more expensive than we can normally afford. And those are the shows that could totally BLOW YOUR MIND!

Soon there will be more details and a little paypal button up on the webby for you. And don’t forget to come to the shows too. All we really want is to enjoy some excellent music from out of town, in your company! Check our shows page for all the details on the upcoming.

Phil Elvrum BABY!!!!!!

09.10.08

I remember the first time I heard a Microphones record…I was 17, and I had just left the New Paltz, NY record store Rhino Records with a copy of The Glow, Pt. 2

I picked it up on a whim (most of my musical exploration back then involved “gut feelings”) I listened to it 3 times on the ride home and 1 last time in my (parents) driveway. I was sad, happy, alone, surrounded, sick, well, haunted and well blown away! Phil Elvrum has a way of cutting right to the bone of musical feeling…he is a master.

Tick Tick is proud to present Mr. Elvrum In Burlington on Oct. 11th (venue tba)

We will keep you posted!!!!

Until then take a listen :

and buy this stuff.

Tick Tick at Art Hop 2008 Yo-yo-yo-yo!

09.06.08
Rucchi, Dale and Nick and I had a bunch of extra time while screen-printing at the Art Hop party at the offices of Seven Days.
Then we got a bunch of yo-yo’s right, and things just turned crazy, crazy.
It was super hot out for this time of year, and also, rediculously windy, which made it really hard for us to cure the ink on all our shirts. There were a bunch of incredible pulled pork sliders, MMMMMMMMH!
Check out the Speaking Volumes shirt that Dale designed and is wearing.

What will Tick Tick be doing this art hop?

09.04.08

I know, everybody has been wondering.

On Friday evening, from around 5 to 9, Tick Tick is doing a printing party at the Seven Days offices, which are on the end of South Champlain St. We’re bringing our four-paddle t-shirt press. You can choose from one of four designs by Seven Days cartoonists, pick out a t-shirt in your favorite size and color, and WATCH US PRINT IT IN FRONT OF YOUR UNBELIEVING EYES. Well, you’ll be cordoned off from the dangerous printing area by a velvet rope. There will be food and drink. You do have to buy the t-shirt.

Last year the party was a ton of fun. It was one billion degrees out and, as you know, when screenprinting, you properly cure the prints with a very hot dryer. Later on we went to the Green Door party and that’s always a good time. If you haven’t looked at Green Door papermaker Drew Cameron’s combat paper project, you really need to.

Pontiak and Arbouretum coming up next Wednesday

09.02.08

Dudes coming on Wednesday. That’s Sept 10.

With a little luck, Burlington’s own (and Tick Tick neighbor and boat driver) Monoprix will be opening up.

Arbouretum and Pontiak are new labelmates on Thrill Jockey, out of Chicago, and they’ve recently released a split called Kale, on which they play some originals and some songs by John Cale.

Pontiak is made up of three southern brothers with charming names, personalities, and a love of healthy organic food. When they were here with Wye Oak in the spring we took them to Handy’s. Dale bought everyone McHandys, which cost about $15.

Take a listen! And then come out to the show, as soon as we can confirm where it is!

There’s Pontiak rocking a house party:
